Observing Offaly Exhibition Launch

Info: All are welcome! Guest speaker Eugene O'Brien, author of 'Pure Mule'. A year-long photographic project by local Rhode photographer Veronica Nicholson. The project was commissioned by Offaly County Council under the per cent for art programme. Veronica has documented Offaly in a most beautiful and intimate nature. Exhibition continues until 30th June. Observing Offaly book for sale in the library.

Info: Following her successful exhibition, ‘Seoda-Treasure Under Foot ‘, and ‘Seoda-Treasure of the Wetlands’, Tina Claffey’s fascination with our native bogs & wetlands continues. In her new exhibition ‘Elements’ she delves deeper into this natural wilderness, encouraging the viewer to slow down, as they immerse into an underworld of fantasy and mindfulness. Using traditional photographic techniques, she conveys the mood of the twilight hours, the effect of the natural elements of rain, wind, overcast skies and brilliant sunshine, while also venturing beneath the water of the mysterious bog pools to reveal the treasures and inhabitants we cannot see.

The 12th Annual School of Rock, facilitated by award winning multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter Brendan Keeley has a couple of places available. This course will give intensive training in writing and performing your own and other well-known songs. It also provides training in various aspects of the music business including copyright, publishing, the recording process, voice training and instrument tuition. Anyone interested in participating should have at least a basic knowledge of an instrument (guitar, drums, bass, voice). International Authors Reading

Info: Giovanni Agnoloni is a writer, translator and a blogger from Florence. He will be taking the opportunity for a short but creatively productive retreat at Tin Jug Studio in Birr. Mr Agnoloni is the author of a number of novels, published in several languages, in what can be termed his dystopian fiction series. His three long essays on Tolkien’s literature and an international collection of Tolkien studies have also been published. A participant in literary residencies and international readings across Europe and the US, he writes in Italian, English and Spanish. Currently, he is working on a novel partly set in Ireland. His short-story The Return, is set in Dublin and was recently published in the new American literary magazine October Hill. Giovanni Agnoloni will read The Return in Birr in the evening of the 26th July, starting at 9pm
