An Artist'sResponse toOffalyScientistJohnJoly
Commissioned as part of the Secrets of Offaly public art project (other projects are underway in Clara and Kinnitty), artist Amanda Rice will present an interactive public art work in the Village of Clonbullogue, Offaly on Monday August 10th at 1.30pm, which focuses on one particular aspect of John Joly's research on the Indonesian volcano of Krakatoa which first erupted in 1883. The project will be launched by Dr Ciaran Reilly of NUI Maynooth and all are welcome.Visit our news page for more information
Acclaimed photographer Veronica Nicholson has been commissioned by Offaly County Council to document the county during 2015/2016. Tin Jug Studio and Offaly County Council have announced the winning recipients of the 2015 Birr Writers Residency, as Kate Newman, Grainne Tobin, Breda Joy and Cherry Smyth. Delighted with the quality and quantity of writers applying for only the second year of this bursary, the organizers said it was a difficult to select writers this year, focusing their process on how clearly applicants expressed their desire to make the best use of the opportunity alongside evidence of need and current projects. Irish Youth Chamber Choir visits Offaly
A unique collaboration of young voices unite in Tullamore this month when the Irish Youth Chamber Choir conducted by Greg Beardsell will perform in the Church of Assumption on Sunday April 26th at 7.30pm alongside local school choirs and the award winning Tullamore Academy Chamber Choir. Arts Grants to Offaly Community Groups
Offaly County Council approved 17 arts grants to groups and individuals under the Arts Act Grants scheme 2015. Recipients of the grants include, Arden View Family Resource Centre, Banagher Musical Society, Community Cabin Edenderry, Clara Musical Society, Clara Town Band, Clonbullogue Development Association, Dochas, Edenderry Youth Café, Jigsaw, Scoil Eoin Pól Tullamore, Rosemarie Langtry, St Joseph's NS Arden View, St. Mary's Youth Centre, Tullamore Gramophone Society, Tullamore Rhymers Club, Tin Jug Studio and Tullamore Town Band. Offaly Youth Theatre is a not-for profit organisation funded by Offaly County Council that places the artistic wants and needs of its young members first.(Ages 14-20). All facilitators are third level trained and Garda Vetted. OYT offers a place for young people to communicate their own ideas, learn acting skills for film and theatre, use own voice, write their own scripts and perform it.
