Gum Litter Awareness Campaign

Offaly County Council is participating in an awareness campaign specifically about gum litter. This is a national awareness programme targeting behaviour regarding the disposal of chewing gum. It has been running since 2006 and this is the second time Offaly County Council has taken part – in addition, Tullamore Town Council did so last year, with great results. A Gum Litter Task Force was set up, charged with the development and implementation of an action plan to tackle gum litter; and to encourage people to dispose of their chewing gum in a litter bin rather than on the streets, which carries a litter fine of €150.

If your local community is participating in the National Tidy Towns Awards, this is a perfect opportunity to show involvement in waste minimization and litter management
