The aim of our service is;
- To prevent the occurrence of fire, to protect life and property of 70,868 (CSO 2006) people living in 22,000 houses and 3000 commercial premises, throughout the county.
- To promote safer communities by preventing accidents and emergencies from happening as well as protecting people and the environment from danger.
We are a service of Offaly County Council, and work as part of that team to make the county a safer and better place to live, visit, learn and work in. Our contribution to that team is as a 24 hour, seven days a week organisation, skilled in fire-fighting, rescue and fire safety engineering.
From this Service you may expect – a fast response to emergencies needing fire/rescue intervention; advice on fire safety; direction and assistance on licensing, certification and development matters; effective use of resources, all delivered with courtesy. In recent years our role is changing from intervention to prevention, our focus in the future will be to work with the community in the reduction of hazards and emergency incidents. We will, of course, maintain and indeed, improve our ability to respond to any emergency, which may occur. I hope you will enjoy your online visit with us.
The Service hopes to create a safer society by reducing the incidence of death or injury, damage to property and environmental damage caused by fire and by other emergencies.
