Offaly Castles Project
There has been collaberative work over the past number of years between the Archaeological Survey of Ireland and the Heritage Office researching the castles of County Offaly. This is now being presented as individual pdfs for each site. The first site completed is Ballindarra and more will follow (approx 199..)

Medieval Castles of Offaly Study Week – Monday 13th to Friday 17th May 2013
For the first year a medieval castle study week was held in Offaly, lled by archaeologist Caimin O’Brien from the National Monuments Service. He has been researching the castles of county Offaly for the past number of years and the group of 20 were guided to ten sites over the 5 days in addition to two morning lectures. Topics covered included Building a castle, Life in the castle, Defending the castle, From castle to home, The castle in the landscape.
In 2007, Gridpoint Solutions were commissioned by Offaly County Council to do 3d scans of Dungar, Ballymooney, Ballycowan, Monasterorois, Clonmacnoise, Esker and Ballinlough castles. Work is currently continuing to make this information available on the web. See Gridpoint.
