The Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS) is a housing option for those who are receiving rent supplement, usually for more than 18 months and who have a long-term housing need.
Under RAS a person may either stay in their existing rented accommodation (if up to standard) or the Council will find suitable alternative accommodation. The Council will pay the rent for the property directly to the landlord and the tenant must make a rent contribution to the Council, based on the Council’s Differential Rent Scheme.
If you qualify for RAS you will obtain housing security in good quality accommodation. Also if you get a job, you can remain in RAS and your rent will be calculated on the basis of your income.
