Offaly County Council provide over 1822 rented social housing units throughout the county, with the exception of Tullamore and Birr towns who have their own separate housing authorities.
Social housing usually consists of housing estates but from time to time the council build single rural houses for eligible applicants who are in a position to provide their own site. Purpose built houses may also be provided for applicants with special needs or older persons.
To apply for social housing, you should click on the forms link where you can download a form and guidance notes. Once this form is completed, it should be returned to the Housing Department, with all the relevant documentation (see checklist on form). An appointment will then be made to meet with our Assessment Officer. This is normally arranged within a matter of weeks. Following the assessment, the application will be passed for a final decision to the Housing Officer. The Applicant will be informed of the decision in writing.
