Rent Books
A rent book must be supplied by a landlord to a tenant. This also applies to social housing units provided by local authorities and voluntary housing bodies. The rent book must be supplied at the commencement of the tenancy and contain specified information.
The information that must be contained in a rent book includes:
- the location of the property being rented
- landlord and tenants name
- terms of tenancy
- amount of rent and any other agreed service charges
Any alterations to the terms of tenancy must be entered in the rent book. Payment of rent and any other payments must be recorded in the rent book which should be retained by the tenant in a safe place
