There is a full week of activities organised for Engineers Week in Offaly County Libraries, such as lectures by local engineers from Offaly County Council and workshops on Digitial Game Design with Philip Bourke MSc.
Engineers Week is entering its sixth successive year. The week has been subject to year on year growth with approx 11,000 taking part in the 2006 and approx 17,000 taking part in activities nationwide in 2011. The aim of the week is to create a positive awareness and spark enthusiasm about the engineering profession to people of various ages with little or no engineering background.
All eight libraries: Banagher, Birr, Clara, Daingean, Edenderry, Ferbane, Kilcormac and Tullamore will host at least one event for Engineers week. With the support of the engineering department in Offaly County Council, local engineers will present a lecture and question and answer session on engineering as a possible career and the impact on engineering on the local environment. Local secondary and primary schools are invited to take part.
There will also be a Digitial Game Design workshop with Philip Bourke MSc. Philip Bourke is a Lecturer with LIT-Tipperary. He is course coordinator for LIT-Tipperary’s Bachelor of Science Degree in Computing (Games Design and Development). He is also a STEM Ambassador, promoting science, technology, engineering and maths at science events such as Northern Ireland Young Innovators, Science Week and Engineers Week.
