Following the success of the 'Boys into Books' reading initiative in 2009, Birr Library decided to expand the project to other primary schools in the Birr area.
This year, sixth classes from St Brendan's PS, Mercy Primary School plus the entire school classes at Seir Kieran National School and Coolderry Central Primary School took part in the initiative.
The objective of the reading initiative is to promote a love of reading and improve literacy skills.
On June 11, certificates were presented by Olwyn Enright TD and Mary Stuart, County Librarian, to 106 students from Coolderry Central, 21 students from St Brendan's PS and 24 students from the Mercy Primary.
Over the summer period, there will be a countywide summer reading scheme in all Offaly libraries in Banagher, Birr, Clara, Daingean, Edenderry, Ferbane, Kilcormac and Tullamore.
Please check with your local library for details of other summer activities and reading initiatives or visit our website, follow all the library activities on Twitter and Facebook.
