Aideen often used storytelling in her Primary School in Ballymun, Dublin.  Now a full time storyteller, she has told her stories at the National Museum in Dublin, CultralFolk Museum in Belfast and at many summer festivals. Her stories, sad and funny by turns, include yarns and folktales handed down to her by her father in Carlow. Danielle Allison

Danielle comes from an educational background. She has worked with children in schools, libraries and festivals all over Ireland. She tells a wide range of stories, which often involve audience participation.  She is a founder member of The Dublin Yarnspinners. Now settled in Athlone, she is committed to bringing the traditional artform of storytelling to the Midlands and is Director of the Three Rivers Storytelling Festival.

The Three Rivers Storytelling Festival, now in its fourth year is a month long celebration of the traditional art of storytelling. Based in the Midlands, this annual festival features storytellers from Ireland and America. The goal of the festival is to highlight one of Ireland’s greatest treasures – its stories – while strengthening bonds among the communities in the Midlands.

This year we are delighted to announce that festival is spreading across the midlands and in addition to East Galway and Co. Westmeath has expanded to Co.Offaly where we have storytelling taking place in Tullamore, Edenderry, Birr, Clara, Ferbane and Banagher Libraries. Here sessions are offered to local schools for pupils to participate and enjoy.

The Festival came about through the common bonds of a love of stories and a desire to share them in the community shared by Danielle Allison (local storyteller), Mary Dillon (Librarian - Ballinasloe), and storyteller  Liz Warren, from Phoenix, Arizona, who had been coming over to Ballinasloe Library to tell stories for several years before this festival was developed with the Study Abroad Ireland Programme.

For further details of the festival in Offaly Libraries contact your local participating branch or for further details of the festival in one of the other counties involved contact Danielle on 087 9592835.
