Birr Library is marking the anniversary of the birth of Roald Dahl by offering school groups daytime screenings of a movie based on a Roald Dahl book. There will also be an evening-time family screening (6.00pm, all children must be accompanied by an adult, booking essential, contact library for further details). Observing Offaly - an exhibition by Veronica Nicholson

Wednesday 6th September – Saturday 30th September during library opening hours (and up to 7.00pm on Culture Night: Friday 22nd September).

Observing Offaly is a book of photographs by Rhode photographer Veronica Nicholson which was launched to great acclaim last November 2016. Veronica has documented the people and places of Offaly in a most beautiful and intimate manner, and the book is fast becoming a best seller in the county.

Craft Exhibition by Anne Morris

Month of September

Craft Exhibition.  Ann Morris is an Offaly based Artist.  She studied print making and sculpture in the College of Art in Belfast and Cork.  Her work is mainly about nature and how we interact with each other.  Her recent work looks at the more emotional side of human nature and reflects a quieter more thoughtful side of her.Her recent works are etching.  She also does pencil drawings and watercolours.

EU Direct Debate

Tullamore Library will soon be hosting an EU Direct debate.  The debate it to raise awareness of EU activities in Ireland.

The debate will be chaired by Claire O’Brien (Midlands Radio). Speakers include:- Professor John O’ Brennan, John Monnet Professor of European Integration at Maynooth University, Professor Aidan Regan, Assistant Professor of Politics and International Relations at University College Dublin (UCD), and Director of the Dublin European Institute (DEI) and Dr. Mary C. Murphy, Department of Government, University College Cork.
