Offaly Library Service and FAS successfully launched their eLearning at the Library project in September 2009. Since then 189 participants with IT skills of all levels have signed up to the programme and were given the opportunity either to attend supported workshops in the library and learn basic IT skills over the 10 week programme or to work independently themselves at a pace and place that suits them.

E-Learning at the library is a wonderful opportunity for people to develop and improve their IT skills at a pace that suits them best. All courses are offered free of charge. There are two options for learners:

  • A learner (beginner learner) is placed in a class with a FÁS facilitator who will help them to get to grips with computer and Internet basics through the use of supported workshops.
  • Advanced users can sign up to complete courses such as ECDL, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint etc. These courses can be studied online from home or local library and exams can be completed online in the local FAS centre.

The facilitator is on hand to help learners with any difficulties that may arise during their studies and will be in constant contact to support those learners who choose to work from home.
Other courses available include Health and Safety, Business courses such as Introduction to Project Management, Book-Keeping, Effective Administrative Support, Practical Budgeting Skills for Business, Basic Business Maths, Accounting and Finance Fundamentals.

If you are over 18 and would like to register for any of the courses or attend the workshops (if you are a complete beginner), then please do not hesitate to call into or contact by phone any of our libraries in Offaly Library service:
