
The main collections are located at the County Library Headquarters, Tullamore and comprise extant local government archives, private papers, local newspaper from mid-19th century to the present day, many thousands of photographs and other images, maps & plans, local folksongs, early printed books, journals and other media relating to the history & heritage of Offaly.
Services
For general information on the collections, visitors should consult Reading Room staff. Staff will also take telephone queries, although we ask more complex requests be made by letter or email. It is our policy to assist and facilitate visitors. It is outside the scope of our resources to undertake research.
Researchers can consult our database for printed and other local sources. A catalogue of local authority records was published in 2003 and is available for consultation (Murphy, Grand Jury Rooms to Áras an Chontae: local government in Offaly, Tullamore 2003). Listing of other special collections are also available.
The Local studies section is open during Tullamore Library Opening hours.
Reprographic Services
Photocopying service is available subject to copyright law. Restrictions may also apply in cases where material is sensitive or fragile.
Each local library also holds a core collection of print material.
