Speed Limit Bye-Laws

The Council is authorised to fix special speed limits for any road, following a public notice procedure and having considered representations, if any, from the public and the Garda authorities.

  • Built up area Speed Limit 50kph
  • Special Speed Limit 80kph
  • General Speed Limit 100kph
  • Motorway Speed Limit 120kph

2011 Speed Limit Review

The 2011 Speed Limits will be on public display from 16th June 2011 in the Road Department, Aras an Chontae, Charleville Road, Tullamore, Edenderry Town Council and Birr Town Council for a period of 30 days until July 14th. Representations in writing may be made to the Senior Roads Engineer, within that 30 day period.

The National Roads Authority’s consent is required for speed limits on national roads and motorways.

PARKING BY LAWS

The County Council has the power to make bye-laws for the control and regulation of parking in specific parking places and may provide for the payment of fees for parking. Public notice must be given and representations from the public and Gardai must be considered.Bye-laws can restrict parking areas, grant parking permits for disabled persons, set maximum periods for parking and specify classes of vehicles which may use parking spaces.

In accordance with Section 36 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994, Offaly County Council has decided to amend the 2008 Parking Bye-Laws for Banagher. A copy of the Draft Bye-Laws is available for public inspection at the following locations:

Roads Department, Offaly County Council, Aras an Chontae, Charleville Road, Tullamore, Co.Offaly .
