Tullamore Sewerage Scheme Wastewater Treatment Works
The construction of a new Wastewater Treatment Works in Tullamore commenced on 30th April 2010. EPS Ltd / SIAC Construction Ltd were appointed for the design, build and operate contract for a 45,000 population equivalent Wastewater Treatment Works and an 80,000 population equivalent sludge treatment facility. The contract period is 98 weeks. To date all major civil works are complete and the mechanical and electrical works ongoing. The completed Works, anticipated spring 2012, will provide for future development and employment growth within the gateway town of Tullamore and ensure all environmental and statutory requirements are addressed.

Clara Wastewater Treatment Works Phase 2 Upgrade
The Clara Wastewater Treatment Works Phase 2 Upgrade Contract was signed on 20th December 2011. Geda Construction is the Contractor appointed for the works to upgrade the existing WWTW from a design capacity of 4,500 population equivalent to 9,000. The works comprise of the construction of storm tank, aeration tank, clarifier, tertiary filter and all associated Civil and M&E works on the site of the existing WWTW. The work is anticipated to be complete within 9 months.

Ballinagar Wastewater Treatment Works Upgrade
The upgrade of the Ballinagar Wastewater Treatment Works was completed in August 2011. The WWTW is designed for a population equivalent of 1000 comprising a new inlet chamber and storm tank, Compact Activated Sludge tank, Picket Fence Thickener and control building. The upgraded works will provide capacity for the existing population in Ballinagar and allow for future residential and commercial development in the area producing a high standard of final effluent quality.

Birr Water Supply Scheme Abstraction Order
Offaly County Council, Water Services Authority for Birr Town and Environs, propose to increase the abstraction of water from the Camcor River at Springfield Bridge, Clonoghil Upper, Birr, for the Birr Water Supply Scheme.
In accordance with the Water Supplies Act 1942, amended by the Planning and Development Act 2000 - 2010 and Water Services Act 2007 Offaly County Council is required to make a Proposal for taking a supply of water from the Camcor River.
Details of the Proposal may be inspected at the offices of Offaly County Council and Birr Town Council. An open day was held in Birr Civic Offices on 13th July 2011. Submissions and objections were received by 18th August 2011.
In accordance with legislation Offaly County Council Water Services has applied to An Bord Pleanála for a Provisional Order. An Bord Pleanála will consider the application in full.
The proposed abstraction forms part of the Birr Water Supply Scheme. The scheme aims to ensure the supply of the existing service to Birr Town and Environs and provide for growth and development in the urban area.
