The meter sits inside a meter chamber connected to your supply pipe and is usually located close to the boundary of your property, in your front garden or in the footpath outside your property.
An internal meter may have been installed and located on pipework inside your premises usually under the sink or near internal stop tap. Some internal meters have automatic meter reading device (AMR) that transmits your reading by radio signal. It must not be removed. The digits may be viewed by lifting the flap on the top of the unit.
If you want to read your meter you have got to open the lid. This can be done by prizing it off with a screwdriver. The meter box may contain a polystyrene protector. This is provided to guard against frost damage. It should be replaced once you are finished.
Each water meter has a unique serial number which is on your water bill. Please ensure that these two numbers match to confirm that you have located the correct water meter. You should see black digits on the meter face that record cubic meters and red digits that record litres. You will be charged on the basis of whole cubic meters used. All meters are metric meters, they measure water volume in cubic meters (1 cubic meter =1000 litres = 220 gallons).
