The Border, Midland & Western (BMW) and the Southern & Eastern (S&E) Regional Assemblies have announced that they have recently approved grants totalling €28 million to fund Urban Regeneration and Sustainable Urban Transport projects in the National Spatial Strategy designated Gateways and Hub Towns under their respective Regional Operational Programmes 2007-13, which are co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Edenderry is the principal town in East Offaly and is an important services/shopping centre for its East Offaly/Northwest Kildare hinterland. The town is situated close to the upstream section of the River Boyne which forms the Offaly /Kildare county boundary to the East and North of the town. Because of its proximity to Dublin (59km) Edenderry is currently experiencing unprecedented development interest in the residential, retail and commercial sectors.
To provide the framework for the orderly and proper development of the whole town over the next 20 years Offaly County Council in co-operation with Edenderry Town Council prepared a brief for traffic, transportation and land use studies and any related traffic and land use surveys.
