The Honourable, Mr. Dan Rooney, United States of America Ambassador to Ireland, visited Áras an Chontae on Friday, 13th August 2010.

Councillor Barry Cowen, Cathaoirleach Offaly County Council formally welcomed the Ambassador to Offaly and to Áras an Chontae.  A meeting with the Ambassador and members of Offaly County Council and the Cathaoirligh of Birr, Edenderry and Tullamore was held to discuss issues of mutual concern.  The Cathaoirleach noted in his address the extraordinary commitment the Ambassador has shown to Ireland through his involvement with the American Ireland fund, which has raised over $300 million for cultural and educational projects throughout Ireland, and particularly for projects which further the cause of peace and reconciliation.
