 | Offaly Arts Office supports the development of Contemporary Dance as an Art Form in Offaly |
For the purposes of developing dance as an art form in the county, we intend to focus on contemporary dance as the most expressive, participant led and experimental form of dance.
Contemporary dance is at its strongest in the south of the county where there is a long history of contemporary youth dance projects in Birr. The Dancer in Residence scheme 2005/2006 created a new momentum for the Offaly Youth Dance Company based in Birr Theatre and Arts Centre.
Offaly County Council Arts Office currently grant aids Legitimate Bodies Dance Company Ltd who have a community youth and schools dance programme.
Arts Office will ensure that:-
- Professional dance artists are at the forefront in dance development objectives, in strengthening the current Offaly Youth Dance Company and in finding new ways to expand the company's experience.
- Opportunities are developed to expand contemporary dance participation in the centre and north of the county.
- Develop collaborative relationships and partnerships with established professional dance companies and with resource organisations that may be willing to support selected education initiatives and other services for dance in Offaly
