Offaly County Council wishes to invite applications to Irish Language Shopfront Pilot Scheme under the Historic Structures Fund 2021, as operated by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Irish language signs were once a common sight on shopfronts in our towns and villages, but they are an increasingly rare sight, with many a reminder of a shop long since closed. Some emerge during renovation and other works to existing shops – a reminder of a past life for a building. A new fund seeks to bring these old, often faded signs back to their former glories.

On the 6th of May 2021, Offaly County Council in partnership with the Offaly Independent launched the Offaly Community Recognition Awards 2021. Details of the awards are available on the and Offaly Independent websites and on social media platforms. The aim of the awards is to acknowledge the outstanding community efforts that individuals and groups have delivered in County Offaly in the past year.
