The Cathaoirleach and Members of Offaly County Council welcome the package of supports announced by An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar T.D., Minister Michael McGrath T.D, and Minister Catherine Martin T.D this evening. The Cathaoirleach noted that the package outlined a number of measures including

  • A 20% top up on the Restart Grant Plus Scheme,
  • a € 1 million fund for the Local Enterprise Office, in conjunction with local Chambers of Commerce, to support micro enterprises
  • a € 1 million fund for Fáilte Ireland to undertake a promotional campaign to increase tourist footfall in the 3 counties when the restrictions are lifted.
  • additional support and resources to aid businesses in accessing available funding

The Members were satisfied that the supports addressed some of the concerns expressed to them by constituents and businesses across the county. They also particularly welcomed the supports to the Tourism sector in the county.

The Cathaoirleach also welcomed the announcement from the Minister of Health, Stephen Donnelly, that he will meet with representatives of Offaly County Council in the coming week to address the concerns expressed by the Members at the Special Meeting held on Tuesday 11th August.
