Town and Village Renewal Funding for Offaly October 12th

Offaly County Council today (Oct 12th) welcomed an announcement by Ministerfor Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, €180,000 funding for projects in Offaly under the third round of the enhanced Town and Village Renewal Scheme that supports towns and villages to respond and adapt to COVID-19.

Speaking after the announcement, Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council, Cllr. John Carroll said the focus of the funding is on measures and interventions that help towns and villages to adapt to social distancing requirements and to provide safe environments that encourage people into towns and villages to shop and socialise.

Offaly County Council were successful with 6 out of 7 applications for Round 3Accelerated Measure of the 2020 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

This round includes an allocation of funding for Tullamore which was in the large towns category, with populations in excess of 10,000 which have not previously been funded through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

Tullamore

To refurbish Millennium Square to include a deep clean of the area, replace some paving and create an attractive urban seated/garden area providing an additional outdoor gathering space for Tullamore Town.

Daingean

Rejuvenation of Daingean Square, including deep clean, footpath resurfacing, urban seating and planters and the provision of additional seating in adjacent green amenity space to create safe, public gathering areas.

Clara

To enhance a river amenity in Clara by providing additional seating, resurfacing of stony pathways, improved entrance accessibility, landscaping and refurbishment of pedestrian bridge over the River Brosna.

Ferbane

The provision of a “Chill & Chat” pop up urban garden in the town centre of Ferbane where people can enjoy social interaction in a safe outdoor space while observing social distancing protocols.

Ballycumber

To enhance a river amenity area in Ballycumber by providing additional seating, upgrading of canopied seating area, improved entrance accessibility and repair of pathway to facilitate safe outdoor gatherings.

Geashill

To enhance 2 outdoor amenities in Geashill a picnic amenity area and the Glebe Walking Trail by providing additional seating and picnic tables and promote their use by providing heritage signage.
