Info: The third in our Sunday Afternoon Concert series at Birr Theatre & Arts Centre, Those Hucklebuck Days: the Story of The Showband Years is a heady tribute to pure nostalgia as we revisit those hits that played each day on the radio and dominated the ballrooms of romance. From Tom Jones to Dickie Rock, Eileen Reid to Brendan Bowyer, relive your memories as we pay homage to the heady days of the great showband craze in Ireland. With the Great Singalong Songbook stars Linda Kenny and Damian Smith, MC Alf McCarthy, and our fabulous Songbook Band (MD Alan Carney).

Info: “Beauty Queen” is Martin McDonagh’s masterpiece. Director, Adrian Shine tells us that the play is “set in the west of Ireland in the 1990s, we meet Mag and her spinster daughter in their kitchen. Maureen is Mag’s carer. They do everything to be contrary with each other. Ray, a young man from the village, arrives to ask them out to a ‘do’. When Maureen finds out about the ‘do’ she immediately thinks ‘little black number’. She goes to the ‘do’ and falls in lust…. With Pato, who we meet next morning in the kitchen. Maureen, flaunts her lover, just to annoy Mag. Pato, emigrates, then writes to Maureen with an offer…” Comic, Tragedy. Hard, Tender. Real, Surreal. Sad. Funny. A Night to Remember.
