Spectacular Vernacular

An exciting programme of arts events across Offaly until end of April 2022

Making the Ordinary Extraordinary taking place between the towns of Birr, Tullamore, and Lough Boora Parklands. Spectacular Vernacular is a series of outdoor events, workshops, performances, and happenings that focus on developing new creative networks and unique opportunities for artists to engage with our community. Spectacular Vernacular is bred from the black earth of the bog and celebrates the local, the ordinary and the mysteries of the colloquial. Much like vernacular architecture depends on utilising the phenomenon in its environs, Spectacular Vernacular emerges from the foundations of artistic cultures that already exist between our towns and in the County of Offaly. Spectacular Vernacular examines the traditions of Offaly and its rural arcadia through the lens of the contemporary practitioners who live there or artists and culturalists whose practice may be historically associated with the locale.

This unique project is a collaboration between the Museum of Everyone | Birr Festivals Collective | Offaly County Council | Birr Theatre & Arts Centre | Tullamore Arts Centre & Lough Boora Parklands.

Can your business tap into the Offaly Film Industry?

Film can bring business worth tens of thousands to an area, with production companies using hotels, catering companies, taxis and restaurants; for instance the recent TV pilot in Charleville Castle saw 130 cast and crew come to Tullamore for 6 days using a wide range of services from local petrol stations to hotels and restaurants. The FilmOffaly Vendor Card will give local services the opportunity to tap directly into that industry for extra business.  FilmOffaly is the first port of call for film productions looking for locations and services in Offaly. Businesses who offer a reasonable discount for their services and partner with the FilmOffaly Vendor Card,  will be in a prime position to gain the film industry’s attention.
