The Government has agreed that Level 5 as set out in the Plan for Living with COVID-19 will apply nationally until April 5th 2021. The Government has clearly stated that there is an absolute need to minimise the level of mobility and congregation of people in order to reduce all opportunities for transmission of the virus.

Consequently, and in line with current public health guidance, the Offices of Offaly County Council are closed for walk-in services to support this reduced mobility policy.

Public access cannot be facilitated during LEVEL 5 restrictions. Therefore, Offaly County Council services will be available by telephone, email, online post and only where absolutely necessary and in exceptional circumstances by appointment. Please read latest information.


Nutrition is the fifth priority area of work for Healthy Ireland. The Healthy Offaly work plan provides for the delivery of a range of healthy eating supports via partner agencies. 

Activities delivered across Offaly to date include: -

In 2017, the Department approved €10,000 in funding to support the delivery of a range of healthy eating supports in Edenderry including: -

  1. the establishment of a community garden 
  2. food tasting sessions; and
  3. healthy eating workshops

The project was supported by the Acorn Project in Edenderry.

In 2018, the Department approved €9,150 in funding to support the delivery of "grow your own" healthy eating supports including: - 

  • two community gardens - Bracknagh in north Offaly and Moneygall in south Offaly. Check out the Moneygall community garden here
  • social farming for four men experiencing mental health difficulties and intellectual disability in Birr
  • expansion of “Meals on Wheels” in Offaly with a focus on training supports and the establishment of additional meals on wheels providers in south and west Offaly
