Spaces & Places for Health & Wellbeing

Spaces & Places for health and well being is the sixth priority area of work for Healthy Ireland. The Healthy Offaly work plan provides for the delivery of a range of supports in local communities via partner agencies. 

Activities delivered across Offaly to date include: -

In 2017, the Department approved funding to support the delivery of a range of health and well being activities in local communities. With the support of Offaly Local Development Company, the following activities were delivered: -

  1. support for eco health infrastructure, blue and green spaces - local clubs / organisations were supported to further develop blue, eco and green health spaces in Daingean and elsewhere in Offaly
  2. eight health and well being programmes were delivered across five communities including outdoor recreation activities, healthy eating, etc

In 2018, the Department approved €14,000 in funding to support the delivery of a range of health and well being activities in local communities. With the support of Offaly Local Development Company, the following activities were delivered: -

  1. outdoor recreation in eco spaces (e.g. blueways, greenways, walking trails, etc.) - programmes delivered included term time camps at Halloween and Easter, and over the May and June bank holiday weekends for 100+ children and young people aged 6 to 14 years
  2. Ferbane community transformation for 110 people. The porgramme included weekly weigh ins, nutrition talks, exercise classes, community walks, couch to 5k and much more
  3. eight health & well being programmes for 180 people from priority target groups of Healthy Ireland including adapted physical activity programmes for older adults; MOJO and mini MOJO programmes for disadvantaged men and Travellers; physical activity programmes for disadvantaged men, particularly those living in isolation; and sport programmes for children and young people
