The Government has agreed that Level 5 (with some amendments) as set out in the Plan for Living with COVID-19 will continue to apply nationally until July 5th 2021. The Government has clearly stated that there is a continued need to minimise the level of mobility and congregation of people in order to reduce all opportunities for transmission of the virus.

Please note that our library buildings have reopened to the public for Browsing Services and Contact & Collect since Monday, May 10th. Please see Library Page.

Consequently, and in line with current public health guidance, the Offices of Offaly County Council are closed for walk-in services to support this reduced mobility policy.

Public access cannot be facilitated during LEVEL 5 restrictions. Therefore, Offaly County Council services will be available by telephone, email, online post and only where absolutely necessary and in exceptional circumstances by appointment. Please read latest information.

Offaly Community Watch Network

This network was established to support Community Alert and Neighbourhood Watch groups. The network is supported by Offaly Public Participation Network, An Garda Siochána and Offaly County Council. The network has put in place a Text Alert system in conjunction with An Garda Siochána where communities receive text alerts on security and safety from a centrally administered text system.

The network has been well supported by groups around the county. Active participation by 74 groups in the network highlights the efforts that individuals go to to take care of people living in their community. To date the network has set up a text alert system and has had speakers address the network across a range of topics including: crime prevention; drug awareness; anti-social behaviour; suicide alertness in the community; supports for older people; community smoke alarm scheme; community CCTV systems and public lighting in Offaly.

An Offaly Community Watch Network member

  • will be notified of Community Watch Network meetings (Three per year).
  • will be notified of the six representatives on the county Joint Policing Committee.
  • can join the Text Alert group
