1916 Rising Memorabilia Project
Offaly County Council in partnership with Birr, Edenderry and Tullamore Historical Societies and Inspiring Ireland are running a memorabilia documentation programme for items relating to the 1916 Rising and its legacy. The items could be anything associated with the decade (c. 1913-23) for example, letters, diaries, autograph albums belonging to political prisoners, oral history recordings, unpublished memoirs, memorial cards of revolutionary veterans, photographs and uniforms.
In many cases people underestimate the significance of the items that are in their family’s care – often rating others as having more interesting information but regardless of what the item is please get in touch as it is important these items are recorded – they all tell part of the story!
The aim of the project is to record and photograph the items and to make this information available to the public. If you have an item of interest and would like to have it recorded, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and details of the items of interest or phone 057 9346839. You will then be given an appointment to call to the library service where the details of the item will be recorded and the item photographed. The images may be used on the Offaly 2016 webpage, they will be held as a record in Offaly County Library and they may also be hosted on the national Digital Repository of Ireland or Inspiring Ireland site.
