Once Upon A Storytime @ Birr, Clara, Edenderry & Tullamore Libraries
Once upon a Story Time project.
Once Upon a Storytime is an early literacy initiative for 2 -6 year olds. The initiative aims to encourage joint reading with young children – whether at home, in school, in crèche or in the library. Children can take part if their school/playschool is participating or they can have the shared-reading experience at home. It will be run through the libraries in Birr, Clara, Edenderry and Tullamore during October.
Each of the four participating libraries has a different theme for the programme: Birr’s is Dr. Seuss;Clara’s is Fairytales; Edenderry’s is Animals and Tullamore’s is Julia Donaldson.
Reading is a critical skill and sharing books together encourages lifelong readers. Leading experts have proven that reading aloud with children is the single most important activity for building the skills they will later require for learning to read.
As part of the programme, participating libraries will offer local schools and crèches a school visit or a library visit. Alternatively, parents can visit a participating library;
Join up the family for free (if they are not already a member).
Pick up a Once Upon a Story-time Family Logbook from a member of staff,

Enjoy reading it together.
Each story read with someone will gain a stamp in the Logbook. This could be during a library visit to the school, a class visit to the library, a class story-time or a story reading at home.
