A priceless resource, the collections provide unique insights into Offaly’s past.
Our main collections are located at Tullamore Central Library and comprise extant local government archives, private papers, local newspaper from mid-19th century to the present day, many thousands of photographs and other images, maps & plans, local folksongs, early printed books, journals and other media relating to the history & heritage of Offaly. We also have a selection of material available at Birr Library.

The Schools' Manuscript Collection stems from the Schools’ Scheme of 1937-38, organised in twenty six of the thirty two counties of Ireland. The collecting scheme was carried out by children in Primary schools. (copyright UCD.)

The Macregol Gospels
The Macregol Gospel Book is a manuscript copy of the Four Gospels made about 800 AD and is on permanent display in the magnificently restored Pugin-designed Birr Library.
