February 2023
Engineers Week at Offaly Libraries
Offaly Libraries are delighted to celebrate Engineers Week, March 4th – 10th, a key staple in our School Steam Programme for 2023. Engineer’s Week is a yearly celebration of the infinite possibilities that the field of engineering explores and is aimed at school-age children and teens around the country. The library service will be partnering with schools countywide to help engineer the Ireland of tomorrow by hosting a variety of engaging STEAM activities for both the primary and post-primary level.
Using creative thinking in design and building is a core tenet of the field, and there will be plenty of those skills on display during a series of Lego Workshops hosted in Tullamore, Edenderry and Birr libraries on the 6th, 7th and 8th of March, in collaboration with Bricks4Kidz, and kindly co-funded by Creative Ireland. It won’t be just schools who get to enjoy, as these libraries will also host Lego Freeplay Sessions that are open to all.
Exploration of the futuristic technologies which are steadily becoming a larger part of the engineering profession will also form part of the programme, as Tullamore Library will provide demonstrations of its 3D Printer.
Libraries across the county will also support the initiative with STEAM themed book displays to explain and inspire, and will be hosting special science themed storytimes for younger readers. You can contact your local library for more information about any of these events.
