The Summer Stars Reading Adventure was launched at Offaly Libraries last Saturday 15th June. This is a nationwide programme which encourages reading throughout the Summer months which will run until 31st August 2019.

This programme provides the whole family with an opportunity to participate in the full range of events and facilities which are available in their local library, such as story time sessions, children’s activities, access to talking books and games, computers and Internet access, and of course children’s books for all ages. In 2018 over 1,000 children participated in Offaly Libraries Summer Stars programme.

As an incentive for getting involved, there are lots of goodies available for each child along his/her reading adventure: - e.g. pencils, book marks, pencil cases and bags. Children who write reviews of their favourite books are automatically entered into the Book Review competition. This competition is independently judged by Wordsmiths Creative Writing Group, Tullamore. Last year 24 winners collected their school bags at the end of the Summer.

As an added incentive, Tullamore Cycle Centre, Tanyard Lane Tullamore have kindly agreed to sponsor this programme. 1 lucky participant will win a bike this Summer.

There will be a Summer Stars party in each branch at the end of the programme. Each participant will be presented with a medal on the day. The lucky winners of the bike and school bags will be presented with their prizes.
