COVID-19 EMERGENCY FUND GRANTS

On the 11th April 2020 the Department of Rural and Community Development allocated €65,553 in COVID-19 Emergency Funding to Offaly County Council. The grants were for current or capital expenditure and priority was given to locally based community and voluntary groups in disadvantaged urban and rural areas of Offaly dealing directly with the COVID crisis, such as Meals on Wheels and other similar activities.

A total of 37 applicant groups have now received grant aid from this fund and are outlined below.

Funds will be used to purchase of face masks, gloves, sanitiser & Meals-on-Wheels delivery equipment. Application also mentions provision of 'Friendly Phone Call' service for isolated people, and providing out of hours’ phone help-line for people needing emergency home repairs or supplies. No numbers provided.

Offaly Primary Principals Network

The grant will be used to make up an €8,000 fund which will fill the void identified by the Offaly Principals’ Network, namely approx. 50 underprivileged families and children within our school communities who do not have the necessary hardware in order to access the online learning, communication and care that is being extended via their schools. The OCC grant of €3k will be supported by €1k from Tullamore Rotary Club and this €4k fund will in turn be matched by equally by Offaly Schools to provide this vital lifeline for these school children.
