Offaly Libraries is proud to announce the official launch of a new Sensory Space and Magic Table at Birr Library by Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council, Cllr. Audrey Hennessey Kennedy.
The sensory space offers a range of sensory experiences including glow cubes, lava tiles and a floating ceiling of stars. Central to the new offering is the Magic Table, an interactive projector that features a range of games and sensory experiences to promote physical activity, engagement and quality of life for people with sensory needs, dementia and cognitive disabilities. The new Magic Table is fully portable with 360⁰ projection, allowing users to pick flowers on a table, score goals on the floor, play videos on the wall and watch hot air balloons float in the ceiling.
The addition of a magic table to Birr Library brings to 7 the number of magic tables available in libraries across the county and compliments the sensory book collection and sensory toy collection which can be accessed from any branch of Offaly Libraries.
The Sensory Offaly collections and programme are available to support children, young adults and adults with disabilities, additional needs, and learning challenges, along with their families, educators and caregivers. These may be accessed free of charge by anyone who lives, works or is in education in Offaly.
