
Offaly Libraries are proud to announce a new series of events and initiatives as part of the Healthy Ireland at Your Library programme. Healthy Ireland at Your Library is a national programme delivered by public libraries across Ireland. It provides access to a wide range of health and wellbeing resources and supports, helping individuals and families lead healthier lives and Offaly Libraries are bringing that mission to life across the county.
Throughout the coming months, library branches in Tullamore, Birr, Edenderry, Clara and surrounding areas will host a wide range of free events and workshops focused on Mental Wellbeing, Cancer Support, Music Therapy and Art Therapy. The programme will also feature expert talks on mindfulness for exam students, cyber safety for children and cancer support sessions in your local area.
Music Therapy Workshops for Adults with Cianna McGarrigle
Music and Movement for Adults
The aim of this workshop is to retain or gain in some cases, as much movement as possible so as to support one to be independent in their daily life. The movements included in the group include all elements of the body and are built up over a number of weeks. The pace and tempo is increased over the weeks also. The group includes; bi lateral movements, lower and upper body movements, chair exercises and well as standing movements, fine motor skills, lowering and raising movements and impulse control based tasks. The aim of the group is to continue to engage in movement based tasks in a fun, and social environment, using music as the motivator.

Song Writing for Children 9-12 years:
The aim of the workshop is to create an opportunity where they can come together sharing their thoughts and ideas, where their voice and expressions are heard and validated. The aim of the group is to bring their ideas forward. It is a place for them to share what’s on their mind and what may be affecting their age profile at present. The songs can be written in a variety of ways, specifically using music therapy based methods and techniques.

Music and Relaxation for Children 9-12 years
The aim is to support those experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety in their daily living through the practical applications of music. The group will focus on enabling participants to take time for themselves, understanding the importance of self care and will give them the practical skills so that can support their well being in the comfort of their own homes upon completion of their program.
